The Love of God. Is it too good to be true? Many people who follow Christ typically have three responses to God's love. They think "Hmm" and then dismiss it because it doesn't fit in to their realm of understanding, they accept it the way it is and adjust their framework to accept this new idea or they redefine his love to fit their way of thinking and live accordingly...
Look at the story of the prodigal son, who after asking for his inheritance, leaves town, blows his inheritance, and returns home with shame on his mind, hoping to just get a job. So, he has the frame work of the world, that is based on our own achievements as to whether we do or do not get love. The father responds with the framework of God, in God's way, by reaching out to him, throwing him a party and loving Him.
Some Christians think since they're saved or maybe they are just cleaned up, they don't have any problems in their lives right now, so it's OK for God to love us now. But when trouble is around, we've messed up royally or even disobeyed God, we don't think God should love us, because God is too good to love us when we're like that. Because that is what we've been told. That's a lie.
When we talk about the Love (agape love) of God, we're talking about someone who is so utterly committed to our good, that it is not even within Him to change that.
